Retired 5 a side team

If you where to put together a 5 a side from old professional players who would you go for?

Im not basing it on skill, just what I think would fit for a 5 a side game.

  1. For a Goal keeper I’m going Fabien Barthez not because he was a great keeper but because he was a bit crazy and liable to do anything in a game, something I’ve seen from nearly every amatuer GK I’ve ever come across.

  2. Martin Keown - you need that lad who will just throw themselves at anything and is not afraid to get into a tackle, and you need them if things get a bit spikey.

  3. Paul Scholes - you need that lad who can stay centre and just ping balls about and boss the centre, can’t think of many better.

  4. Maradona - the lad who has all the skills and tricks and will run all day, he doesn’t mind a bit of shithousery either.

  5. I’m going to stick in Dimitar Berbatov, the lad who doesn’t look up to much but he’ll hang about the goal and just keep putting the ball in the net.

Who are you going with?

Ok well nice to finally see Barthez and Keown in an all time team :joy:. Here is my " could party all week and still beat all 5"

Oliver Kahn: bit different from the rest on the list but would be competitive enough to decapitate anyone that comes within 10 yards of the goal

Paul McGrath: win every ball in defense , comfortable coming out with it

Maradonna: just imagine trying to contain him in close quarters

George Best: see above

Romario: see above

Thats a good list, your Kahn beats my Barthez by the factvhe can actually be an effective goal keeper:rofl::rofl:

The theme of this 5 a side is " we will come straight from a 3 day bender and still destroy everyone " on reflection of the " not a typical athlete "theme perhaps Neville Southall could of been worth a shout. I included Kahn just because i remembered a story about him been asked to stand in goal as some 9 year olds took penaltys and money would be donated to charity for each 1 scored… He saved them all. Brilliant!!
