Celtic V Rangers Match Preview

Going into the weekend, Celtic sit comfortably at the top of the Scottish Premier League with a commanding 16-point lead, looking like firm favourites to lift the title for a 55th time. However, that means little to Rangers this Sunday, as they will be determined to give their fans a lift and claim the Old Firm bragging rights for the weekend. Rangers will also be hoping to remind Celtic that they are still more than capable of giving Celtic a reality check.

While a Rangers win would do little to derail Celtic’s title charge, a defeat at home in the Old Firm derby is never something that will be taken lightly, no matter how large the points gap is. For both teams, this game is about much more than just three points—it’s about pride, passion, and the fierce rivalry that transcends titles and personal glory.

Celtic go into the game in solid league form, with four wins from their last five matches. With no fresh injury or suspension concerns, they are in good shape for the crucial tie. Rangers, meanwhile, will have some confidence following their midweek Europa League success against Fenerbahçe, which saw them book a place in the quarterfinals of the competition. However, league consistency has been lacking, as evidenced by the considerable points difference between the two sides.

In recent meetings, Celtic have enjoyed a period of dominance, winning seven of the last eight encounters. However, the last meeting saw Rangers secure a convincing 3-0 victory.

My take heading into this game is that Celtic will have a bit too much for Rangers. They are the stronger team, playing at home, and after a tiring 120 minutes in midweek, Rangers might struggle to keep pace for the full 90 minutes. But this is the Old Firm derby, and nothing is ever a dead cert in this fixture. One thing is for sure: it’s never a dull affair, and I always look forward to watching this tie.

I’ll be back after the game with my thoughts. In the meantime, if anyone wants to chat pre-game, feel free to join the Community Hub—I’ll be there too.

Enjoy your Saturday, everyone!
